Privacy and optional analytics

Updated 16 September 2026

Your choice

Optional analytics starts only after you choose Accept analytics. Choose Reject analytics to keep it off. Use the Privacy settings button to change your choice. A browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal keeps optional analytics off. Our tools and articles work without consent.

We store your choice in this browser for up to 180 days. It is a preference needed to remember your decision. With consent, we also store a random identifier in this tab, which expires after 30 minutes without measured activity. It is hashed before storage on our server. We do not add account names, email addresses or form values to these analytics events.

First-party activity measurement

We record the page path, event time, referring website hostname on arrival, and actions such as opening a download link or successfully using an instrumented tool. Query strings and fragments are removed from first-party page and link measurements. We do not retain raw IP addresses in this activity database. Known crawler user agents and marked test traffic are excluded from visitor reports. Short-lived hashed network counters limit repeated requests; they are not visitor identifiers, and expired counters are removed on subsequent measurement requests.

These are consented tab sessions, not a count of every person visiting 42.uk. Referrers can be missing because of browser policies. Download events record link activation, not proof that a transfer finished. A tool success is recorded only when that tool confirms a result. AI citations are reported separately from actual referrals.

Microsoft Clarity

On selected public pages, consent also enables Microsoft Clarity to help us understand navigation through behavioural metrics, heatmaps and masked session recordings. Clarity uses cookies and similar technology. We mask page content and input fields, grant analytics storage only, and deny advertising storage. We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, API keys or tool input as custom events or identifiers. Recording stays off on the TubePilot API-key checker and on URLs containing unrecognised query parameters.

See the Microsoft Privacy Statement for Microsoft’s processing. Withdrawing your choice stops our event collection and reloads the page to remove Clarity. Data already collected is not automatically erased by changing this choice.

Existing counters and operational records

The experimental “c*” counter is a decorative counter seeded at 42,000. It is not verified traffic and is excluded from reporting. Historical first-party activity counted an IP address and path once per hour; those counts are not unique visitors and are kept separate from the consented measurement introduced in September 2026.

Hosting and tool services may maintain operational request, abuse-prevention and error records needed to provide the service. A tool request is distinct from optional analytics. TubePilot sends the submitted video identifier and your API key directly to Google to perform the lookup. The key stays in page memory and is not saved by 42.uk. Never submit a password or private information in a video URL.
